Protect Your Skin with Layers by Scentsy SPF Lotion

By: Yvonne Juarez Think sun damage doesn't apply to you? Here are some surprising myths about skin protection that'll make you think twice about how you're treating your skin: - I’m only susceptible to sun damage in my bathing suit! Think again…you might be fully dressed, head-to-toe and completely vulnerable to the sun. Lightweight cotton only provides SPF 5 for your skin. That’s practically nothing! - I put sunscreen on this morning…I’m fine until I go to bed. No! Sunscreen can wear off as your skin rubs against clothing, towels or other surfaces, or displaced by sweat, swimming or washing your hands. You should be re-applying every few hours, and some experts recommend as often as every 80-90 minutes. Using a water resistant formula will help preserve your protection, but when in doubt, always re-apply! - I’m indoors. No need for sunscreen today! Chances are, you’re inside a building loaded with windows, or in a car surrounded by them. The ave ...

Welcoming in Spring: A Global Perspective

By Frances Zeigler  Since I am from Germany, I still hold on to some of the European traditions. One of my favorites is Walpurgis Night, a spring festival that takes place on May Day’s eve. In Germany folklore holds that during that night, witches meet at the Brocken Mountain to celebrate and conspire together. {source} Therefore, we light bonfires and put a wooden witch on top of it to cast out the evil spirits. During these bonfires we also “dance into May,” so we literally burn the old winter spirits and dance into spring. Since I probably won’t find a bonfire tonight where I now live in Idaho, I thought about other ways to welcome spring and came up with a great idea! I will dig out my Halloween warmers Fright Night and Ghouls & Ghosts for one more night of the year and warm some of Scentsy’s delicious new Spring/Summer fragrances. OK, the warmers don’t have witches on them, but they still give me that traditional, creepy, mystical feeling I alwa ...

Pay It Forward Day 2013

By Kelly Brown “When you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world.” – Rabbi Harold Kushner This Thursday, April 25, is Pay it Forward Day 2013. When you “pay it forward,” you do a good deed for another and ask the beneficiary of that good deed to repay the kindness to others. It becomes an endless chain of kindness, hope, and generosity. If you’re familiar with Scentsy, you know one of our core values is generosity. We define generosity as a willingness to give more than you take. Sometimes you give with money. Sometimes you give your time. Sometimes you give with a simple look and a smile to another that says, “Keep going. You’ve got this.” The important thing is to give. This will be the third year that Scentsy’s owners, Heidi and Orville Thompson, have given each Scentsy employee $10 to “pay it forward.” Many of our employees combine efforts to make a larger donation to a worthwhile cause or add the ...

Happy Easter from the Scentsy Family!

By Kristin Curtis
Bouncy little bunnies, chubby yellow chicks,
Little sparkly baskets made from little purple sticks.

The Easter Bunny’s coming. He’s on his way to town.
Sweets are going flying as he bounces up and down.

He’s bringing eggs and chocolate and many other things,
But in his little basket he is also bringing Spring.

The sun is finally shining, sprouts burst from the ground.
The children will not come inside ‘til all the eggs are found.

Have a Happy Easter. Feel the sun warming your face.
Sniff the blooming flowers and watch Spring take Winter’s place.

International Women’s Day

By Kim Mora I love being a woman, but this hasn’t always been the case. Growing up, I had more interest in G.I. Joe’s and romping around outside with my brother than I did in dolls and princesses. That is what I thought being a woman was—loving everything pink and sparkly (although there is nothing wrong with that)! As I’ve grown up and become more comfortable with myself, I’ve come to realize there are many ways to be a woman and that it’s something to celebrate! There are many kinds of women. First, there’s the working mom, which describes so many of our Consultants and employees here at Scentsy Corporate.  image via @jenniferdand There are the lovers of all things pink and sparkly, I work with a few of these women and can say they are some of the most amazing and talented people I know. Don’t forget those brainiacs. My sister is so smart; like photographic-memory-and-perfect-scores-smart. She is a nursing student and a stay-at-home mom ...

Scentsy World Tour 2013

Over the past three weeks a few lucky members of the Scentsy Family had the opportunity to travel through Europe for Scentsy World Tour—the Spring Sprint across the pond! Events were held in Dublin, Ireland; Manchester, UK; and Kassel, Germany.  All three events were a great success (and a TON of fun!) thanks to our wonderful Consultants. This year’s World Tour meetings were all about sharing tips on sponsoring, team building and training. We discovered that sometimes you have to take a step back and evaluate where you are now before you can move towards the future at full throttle. We asked everyone who attended to create a vision board of where they are in life and in their businesses and, importantly, where they would like be.  This exercise helped Consultants distinguish between the different motivations their team members have for their Scentsy businesses and how to best support each other based on these motivations and goals.  The second half of ea ...

Protect Your Skin with Layers by Scentsy SPF Lotion

By: Yvonne Juarez

Think sun damage doesn't apply to you? Here are some surprising myths about skin protection that'll make you think twice about how you're treating your skin:

I’m only susceptible to sun damage in my bathing suit! Think again…you might be fully dressed, head-to-toe and completely vulnerable to the sun. Lightweight cotton only provides SPF 5 for your skin. That’s practically nothing!
I put sunscreen on this morning…I’m fine until I go to bed.
The average person spends 9,100 hours commuting to work over their lifetime…just picture your hands sitting on that sunny steering wheel, completely unprotected. And that doesn’t even include all the other hours of driving you’ll do!
I put sunscreen on my face and neck daily. I’m good to go. Nope. Here’s a surprising fact: one of the most common places melanoma is detected is between the toes. Sun goes EVERYWHERE. Your sunscreen should too!

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month which makes this the perfect time to talk about sun care! In March, Layers by Scentsy introduced a line of SPF sun care products: SPF 50 and SPF 15 skin lotion and SPF 15 lip balm - available in fragrances from Scentsy’s tropical line: Havana Cabana and Rio Beach.

We all love putting luxurious lotions on our skin and lips while covering our body in amazing fragrance, but it’s also important to remember how to care for your skin beyond the surface. The skin is your largest organ and should be protected!

But, if you’re anything like me, remembering to apply sunscreen every single day is a challenge. Quite frankly, I forget to do it far too often and am left with this lingering guilt, complete with a little voice in my head that says, “Just do it already!!” Avoid the guilt and start protecting yourself today. Here are four easy-to-follow tips to make it easier to remember (and maybe even enjoyable!):

- Update your after-shower routine! Are you in the habit of slathering regular body lotion all over after a shower? Just swap your regular body lotion for a bottle of good-smelling sunscreen. If you have a product you love, with a fresh scent you look forward to, you might actually enjoy applying it!
- Keep some in your purse for touch-ups throughout the day. Think of it like make-up. You should be equally concerned about re-applying your sunscreen as you are about re-applying your lipstick. Trust me, in 20 years, good sunscreen use will far out-weigh any beauty benefits your lipstick can offer.
Make it accessible for the whole family. Put it in a cute basket by the back door. Put it in your husband’s briefcase or office. Put a bottle in your kids’ diaper bag. Don’t just store it in the medicine cabinet—the more accessible it is, the more you’ll remember to use it!
Beyond sunscreen, wear protective clothing like hats (have you seen the amazing hats Princess Kate has been sporting?), sunglasses and long sleeve shirts. Limit time in the sun, particularly between the harshest hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Remember: all these tips are for year-round, not just summer months! Your skin is still vulnerable throughout winter and even on overcast days, clouds let roughly 30% of UV rays through. Protect yourself!

Layers by Scentsy SPF Lotions offer broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays and smell like a perfect tropical vacation to boot. You can wear something that feels good, smells good, and most importantly, does good things for your skin!
