Give me COLOR!

Color blocking is all the rage this season. For those of you who are new to this trend, color blocking is when you pair two or three different colors together to make a bold statement. You can even color block with your Grace Adele handbag, clutch, and coordinating accessories. Check out this video for great ideas to color block your Grace Adele look!  OK, so now you have a few ideas on how to color block with Grace Adele, but what about your clothing? Here are a couple rules of thumb: If the colors show up in nature together, you can probably pair them together in fashion. Take the color wheel below for example. If you’re looking for a more subtle color blocking statement, try picking colors that sit near each other each other, like green with yellow green. If you’re looking for a bold statement, pick two colors that are opposites of each other like violet and yellow.  When you color block, consider where one color ends and another starts. Vertical color blocking tends to elon ...

The Perfect Necklace for Every Neckline

You’re up! You’re showered, your hair is styled, and you’ve donned the perfect outfit. But it needs an extra punch or two, so you turn to your jewelry box. A necklace here, a pair of earrings there, bracelet, bracelet, bracelet, and – VOILA! That ought to do it. Lookin’ good, now! One more check in the mirror and … wait. Huh. Something just isn’t right.  Everything you’re wearing fits; no bulges, no buttons missed. And you can’t go wrong with classic black! So what’s up? It’s a sneaky little problem, and we’ve all faced it. On paper, the clothes and jewelry coordinate just fine, but when you put them all together disaster strikes. (Maybe not disaster exactly, but it’s all relative, right?) More often than not, the jewelry snafu seems to be this: Your necklace just doesn’t quite work with your top. Collar’s too high or necklace is too long — and what are you supposed to wear with a cowl neck, anyway? The ...

How to Organize Your Closet

Spring has sprung! Birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and green grass is finding its way to the surface. You know what that means? Time for spring cleaning! Start the big clean off right by heading to your closet first; we promise you can organize your clothes, bags and jewelry in just a few easy steps… CLOTHES 1.      The first step to getting a clutter-free and organized closet is to purge; get rid of all the clothes, bags, shoes, and accessories that you haven’t worn in the past 12 months. Separate everything you’re not keeping into three piles: 1. Sell 2. Donate and 3. Toss.  2.      Once you’ve determined what is staying, separate everything by season; one pile for spring/summer and one for fall/winter. If you have a small closet, fill it only with what is in season—the rest can be stored elsewhere. If you’re lucky enough to have a large closet, congrats! You can keep each season’s clothes in your ...

You Asked, We Answered: the Grace Adele Tablet Tote!

On any given day, you can find me hauling some combination of laptop, iPhone, and iPad around. They’re all absolutely necessary, of course (right?), but after a few years of heavy use, their cases are looking kind of sad. I need something that stands out rather than buying yet another carrying case in my fallback black. It seems a lot of you have been in the same boat. After we launched Grace Adele last year, one of the questions we heard frequently was, “But what about my tablet? Can’t you come up with something for that?” Guess what? We did.  The Tablet Tote is part of our Spring/Summer 2013 line, and it’s super convenient. It fits into every Grace Adele bag (with the exception of Emma and Laney), and the Shelby bag includes built-in snaps just for the Tablet Tote. Pretty nifty, huh?  Each Tablet Tote is sleek and functional, yet padded enough to keep your device safe. It’s made of faux leather with a matte finish, and a detachable strap helps you h ...

Instagram Incredibles

We are thrilled that Velata is popping up all over Instagram thanks to our wonderful Consultants and fans who are finding new and unique ways to use our delicious cheese and chocolate. We’ve put together a few of our favorite ideas for you to check out for inspiration!

@jhuffman76 is our hero! She’s always coming up with great ideas to use Velata. This time she used a Mocha Mixable in her cream cheese frosting for these gorgeous cupcakes, and then drizzled Velata Caramel Milk Chocolate on top.

@kristinafreeman says her kids called her “Super Mom” the night she drizzled melted Velata Chocolate Fondue on pound cake for dessert. Seems fitting….

Just when you think mac & cheese can’t get any better, @stitchinscents takes it one step further by using Velata Cheese. Plus, look at all that broccoli…. it’s practically diet food.

@angelface041206 earns her moniker by making homemade Cranberry Bark with Velata White Chocolate. Yummm….

@rockinflameless made homemade Crunch Wrap Supremes with Velata Cheese Fondue. Can we please give this woman a round of applause?

Have you come up with a unique way to use Velata Chocolate or Velata Cheese Fondue? We seriously go nuts over these pictures, so please feel free to share! Use #Velata on Instagram or email them to us at officialvelata@gmail.com

Protect Your Skin with Layers by Scentsy SPF Lotion

By: Yvonne Juarez

Think sun damage doesn't apply to you? Here are some surprising myths about skin protection that'll make you think twice about how you're treating your skin:

I’m only susceptible to sun damage in my bathing suit! Think again…you might be fully dressed, head-to-toe and completely vulnerable to the sun. Lightweight cotton only provides SPF 5 for your skin. That’s practically nothing!
I put sunscreen on this morning…I’m fine until I go to bed. No! Sunscreen can wear off as your skin rubs against clothing, towels or other surfaces, or displaced by sweat, swimming or washing your hands. You should be re-applying every few hours, and some experts recommend as often as every 80-90 minutes. Using a water resistant formula will help preserve your protection, but when in doubt, always re-apply!
- I’m indoors. No need for sunscreen today! Chances are, you’re inside a building loaded with windows, or in a car surrounded by them. The average person spends 9,100 hours commuting to work over their lifetime…just picture your hands sitting on that sunny steering wheel, completely unprotected. And that doesn’t even include all the other hours of driving you’ll do!
I put sunscreen on my face and neck daily. I’m good to go. Nope. Here’s a surprising fact: one of the most common places melanoma is detected is between the toes. Sun goes EVERYWHERE. Your sunscreen should too!

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month which makes this the perfect time to talk about sun care! In March, Layers by Scentsy introduced a line of SPF sun care products: SPF 50 and SPF 15 skin lotion and SPF 15 lip balm - available in fragrances from Scentsy’s tropical line: Havana Cabana and Rio Beach.

We all love putting luxurious lotions on our skin and lips while covering our body in amazing fragrance, but it’s also important to remember how to care for your skin beyond the surface. The skin is your largest organ and should be protected!

But, if you’re anything like me, remembering to apply sunscreen every single day is a challenge. Quite frankly, I forget to do it far too often and am left with this lingering guilt, complete with a little voice in my head that says, “Just do it already!!” Avoid the guilt and start protecting yourself today. Here are four easy-to-follow tips to make it easier to remember (and maybe even enjoyable!):

- Update your after-shower routine! Are you in the habit of slathering regular body lotion all over after a shower? Just swap your regular body lotion for a bottle of good-smelling sunscreen. If you have a product you love, with a fresh scent you look forward to, you might actually enjoy applying it!
- Keep some in your purse for touch-ups throughout the day. Think of it like make-up. You should be equally concerned about re-applying your sunscreen as you are about re-applying your lipstick. Trust me, in 20 years, good sunscreen use will far out-weigh any beauty benefits your lipstick can offer.
Make it accessible for the whole family. Put it in a cute basket by the back door. Put it in your husband’s briefcase or office. Put a bottle in your kids’ diaper bag. Don’t just store it in the medicine cabinet—the more accessible it is, the more you’ll remember to use it!
Beyond sunscreen, wear protective clothing like hats (have you seen the amazing hats Princess Kate has been sporting?), sunglasses and long sleeve shirts. Limit time in the sun, particularly between the harshest hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Remember: all these tips are for year-round, not just summer months! Your skin is still vulnerable throughout winter and even on overcast days, clouds let roughly 30% of UV rays through. Protect yourself!

Layers by Scentsy SPF Lotions offer broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays and smell like a perfect tropical vacation to boot. You can wear something that feels good, smells good, and most importantly, does good things for your skin!
