About three weeks ago I was lucky enough to tagalong with Scentsy’s video team for the October Scent of the Month shoot of Mandarin Moon. It’s always a treat to spend time with the video team; they work super hard and have a great time. Join me on my behind-the-scenes look!
Planning for a video shoot starts weeks (sometimes months) in advance. The team draws inspiration from the fragrance and its ingredients and then develops the video concept from there.
The Mandarin Moon video shoot took place at a variety of locations. The first was a little tearoom and café— selected because the notes of cinnamon and star-anise give the fragrance a cozy aroma that is a perfect fit for a tearoom.
When we film in retail locations, business is still going on as usual, so we get many curious looks and have to work around people—but that’s all part of the fun. The next stop was just down the road at a vibrant, indoor produce market which was chosen to portray the ginger and mandarin notes in the fragrance. The variety and color was beautiful and produced some amazing shots.
In true Scentsy bootstrapping fashion, our final location was the home of our coworker, who was kind enough to allow us to use his yard and kitchen for a few final shots… we may have even snuck in a quick dinner. With a few select props and some carefully placed leaves, the team was able to create the perfect atmosphere to portray the cozy, autumn fragrance of Mandarin Moon.
A little over five hours later, the video shoot was finished, and I had 117 photos for this blog post; yikes! Although I helped out at times, I’m sure I was much more of a burden than the video team expected. I heard a lot of “…quiet, we’re shooting!” and “…move, you’re in the shot!” Despite all this, the video turned out incredibly well— a testament to the awesome video concept, excellent shooting, and amazing editing. I hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look! You can see the final Mandarin Moon video here.
