The 3 “R’s” of Scentsy

If you’re like me and LOVE Scentsy warmers, you probably have one in each room plus a few in the closet that have been replaced by a newer style.  So what can you do with your stash of past Scentsy warmers? Follow the 3 “R’s” of Scentsy… Re-Group Scentsy is a great way to add color or a decorative accent to your home. Some areas may not be conveniently placed near an outlet. In these areas, try combining a past warmer with other decorative pieces in coordinating colors. The group will have a bigger impact and your warmer will continue to decorate the space.         Re-Purpose  I have a story that may sound familiar. I received a call from my son to explain that a Scentsy warmer had been broken. I, of course, asked how that happened. He and his friends had decided to throw the football around the living room! Needless to say, the warmer base was broken (but the dish was fine). Instead of ...

On the Road: Consulting with Consultants

Here in Scentsy Marketing, we are passionate about helping Scentsy Consultants grow their business. Earlier this summer, I traveled to Europe and offered to meet with our new EU Consultants. I was pleased to hear from a number of them who invited me to their home parties, fairs, and team meetings. Even though all of these Consultants are just starting their  businesses, they are already passionate and enthusiastic about Scentsy. (Prospective Scentsy Consultants in Edinburgh try out the fragrances) Our Consultants are the ‘secret in the sauce’ at Scentsy. Early in our history, Orville and Heidi recognized that Scentsy Consultants had great ideas to share on how to make our products and processes better. This started a tradition at Scentsy of transparent communication. Our executives try to connect with Consultants around the globe whenever they can, and our Consultants provide great feedback. Even our new Consultants have great ideas for Scentsy.  (Scentsy home party in Bognor Regi ...

The Power of Suggestion

A little over nine years ago, I turned a hobby of mine into a small business.  Some of you with serious phobias of snakes probably won’t be able to read past this first paragraph, because this business involved the breeding and sales of relatively rare, highly colorful Kingsnakes native to the Nuevo Leon Mountains of Mexico.  Ever since I was 5 years old, I’ve had an interest in reptiles, and the gene that triggers a fear-based response in many people, is something I was born without.  So how could this possibly have anything to do with Scentsy or fragrance?  Read on.  My daughters, and even my wife, have no fear of reptiles either.  By the time my second daughter was in the 4th grade, she begged me to come to school and teach the other kids about snakes.  This was the beginning of many presentations that taught me an interesting fact about people.  Invariably, in every one of the groups I taught, about 10 to 15 percent of the kids or teachers would back ...

Preserving Scentsy's Past

By Johanna Payne I have the best job at Scentsy! In February, I started working as Scentsy’s archivist. I am responsible for keeping track of Scentsy’s past and future. My job is part detective, part librarian, and part storyteller. I have loved learning more about Scentsy’s rich history. In just seven short years, we have accomplished so much. Recently, I traveled to Palo Alto, California to meet with the archivist at Hewlett Packard. She gave me a tour of the house and garage where HP started.  When she was hired, she was responsible for locating over 50 years’ worth of history. What a daunting task!  Most companies do not hire an archivist until several years after they have been in business.  It is difficult finding important artifacts after too many years.  I am thankful that Scentsy decided to fill the role of archivist sooner rather than later. One of my responsibilities is to collect artifacts and bring to life Scentsy’s story of gro ...

Boom, Baby!

Is it just me or is everyone pregnant? I see pregnant ladies everywhere! Hollywood is even experiencing a baby boom this summer with babies just born to Natalie Portman and Jennifer Connelly. Statistics show that more newborns arrive during the months of July, August and September than any other time of the year. Why you ask?  Think about the weather 9 months ago – it’s colder in most parts of the country and people spend more time indoors snuggling with their sweeties. Babies are also planned to fit in with summer schedules and vacation plans. With all these babies coming, many of you may be decorating a nursery! Whether you choose a bright, modern color palette or a soft, calming retreat, Scentsy can inspire your baby style! Let’s start with our favorite Scentsy Buddy, Lenny the Lamb. A great choice for any nursery! Combine Lenny and our mid-size warmer Little Lamb with a neutral color scheme mixed with dark woods and texture. If you are looking for a more playful ...

Fragrance Rules

Turning 36 a “few” years ago resulted in a somewhat new experience for me, seasonal allergies. As someone who regularly evaluates fragrances, there is a possibility that regular use of a nasal spray could put my nose into a slow but steady state of disrepair—such as chronic anosmia. In my last blog, I discussed anosmia and how our noses can tune certain fragrances out, without factoring in nasal sprays.  I also mentioned how this can impact me, or anyone like me, involved in the creation or development of fragrances.  Here are some interesting (and general) rules that apply to perfumers, evaluators and anyone in the fragrance business that smells things for a living: 1.      No chewing gum immediately before or during an evaluation. 2.      You should not be wearing a personal fine fragrance of any kind while evaluating. 3.      Avoid spicy foods, including garlic and onions, at least 12 hours befor ...

Supporting Autism Speaks, Piece by Piece

It’s hard to know what to do when a loved one, friend, or acquaintance has been affected by a serious disease or disorder. You find yourself searching for the right words, the right action, the right way to respond. Most of all, you search for a way you can help. For the past year, the Scentsy Family Foundation has been offering a way to aid those affected by cancer. Our previous Charitable Cause Warmers have benefitted the Sunshine Kids Foundation, which provides group activities for children with cancer; and Rethink Breast Cancer (in Canada) and the National Breast Cancer Foundation in the U.S., which support breast cancer awareness and early detection. Our latest Charitable Cause product, the Scentsy Piece by Piece Warmer, benefits Autism Speaks, an organization that supports autism research, diagnostic methods, and more effective treatments. Many Scentsy Consultants, employees, and customers asked us to support this important organization, and we are so happy we can play a part in raising awaren ...

The Executives are Scentsy People too

By John Curtis, VP of communications When you ask a Scentsy employee what they love most about working at Scentsy, you might hear they relish the celebration cakes, or the creative environment or the silly pranks, or the opportunity to help Consultants succeed in their business.  These are all great reasons to enjoy Scentsy employment.  But most likely, you will hear employees say they like the people best. I would have to agree.  The people I work with at Scentsy are truly amazing and talented individuals.  Better yet, they are simply good people.   I love working with them.  They put up with my constant puns, my random whistling and my somewhat messy desk (maybe more than somewhat).  They bring me milkshakes when I’m down and put me in my place when I get too big for my britches. These wonderful people make coming to work an ongoing pleasure rather than a daily grind. Among all these great people at Scentsy, I am most often asked what it’s like to ...

All’s Fair in Holiday Flair

Growing up, we decorated our family home for Christmas—lights, a big tree, a few wreaths—and maybe displayed a carved jack-o-lantern at Halloween. No giant red hearts on Valentine’s Day. No cornucopia stuffed with plastic produce in November. No bunnies at Easter (though someday I’ll share the unfriendly fate of a few live, dyed chicks my brothers and I received in our baskets). After all, why decorate for one holiday when the next is right around the corner? Who wants to drag the life-sized inflatable snowman out of the attic, only to pack it right back two weeks later? For a long time, I didn’t feel like anything was missing. But around seventh grade, I began spending a lot of time at a friend’s house, whose mother decorated for every remarkable day of the year. She marked the major holidays with quirky figurines, window clings, and lawn ornaments. She commemorated the not-so-major holidays, too, even exchanging curtains and throw pillows for festive flair. And every tim ...

Bring Back My Bar!

Approximately 18 some odd months ago we realized that we were in a unique predicament - people were absolutely in love with Scentsy fragrances. And really, can you blame them? With scents ranging from Fried Ice Cream to Fresh Cut Grass, there really is a fragrance for everyone! But therein lay our predicament; the selection of wickless, highly scented fragrances that Scentsy Consultants offer changes every six months. So customers fell in love with a favorite fragrance only to discover (cue the scary music) that their favorite-can’t-live-without fragrance was about to be discontinued and separation anxiety would set in. The imminent retirement of fragrances often inspired hoarding and frantic requests to Consultants—bribes are not unheard of—for those last few bars. That deep connection with fragrance is part of what has made Scentsy so successful.  So we had to come up with a plan. After hours and weeks of deliberation and research, and more deliberation and research, we found ...

Instagram Incredibles

We are thrilled that Velata is popping up all over Instagram thanks to our wonderful Consultants and fans who are finding new and unique ways to use our delicious cheese and chocolate. We’ve put together a few of our favorite ideas for you to check out for inspiration!

@jhuffman76 is our hero! She’s always coming up with great ideas to use Velata. This time she used a Mocha Mixable in her cream cheese frosting for these gorgeous cupcakes, and then drizzled Velata Caramel Milk Chocolate on top.

@kristinafreeman says her kids called her “Super Mom” the night she drizzled melted Velata Chocolate Fondue on pound cake for dessert. Seems fitting….

Just when you think mac & cheese can’t get any better, @stitchinscents takes it one step further by using Velata Cheese. Plus, look at all that broccoli…. it’s practically diet food.

@angelface041206 earns her moniker by making homemade Cranberry Bark with Velata White Chocolate. Yummm….

@rockinflameless made homemade Crunch Wrap Supremes with Velata Cheese Fondue. Can we please give this woman a round of applause?

Have you come up with a unique way to use Velata Chocolate or Velata Cheese Fondue? We seriously go nuts over these pictures, so please feel free to share! Use #Velata on Instagram or email them to us at officialvelata@gmail.com
