We’re already well into October, but the spookiest time of the year is just ramping up! While many people think of Halloween as a time for thrills and scares, there are still plenty of opportunities to share some cheer with the ones you love. From joyful Halloween movies to the simple excitement of trick-or-treating with the little one, Halloween has more family fun to offer than we often realize.
A new trend that’s become popular in recent years makes it easier to share your excitement in a wholesome way! You’ve likely heard about giving or receiving a boo basket during October, but what exactly is it?
What’s a boo basket?
A boo basket is a container (usually a bucket or basket) filled with fun Halloween treats. The contents of each basket can be themed — like a basket filled with books and reading essentials or a pumpkin carving basket filled with the necessary tools — or can just be some of the recipient’s favorite things with a Halloween twist (Scentsy Harvest Collection anyone?). Want to try the trend yourself? Check out our basket suggestions below:
Types of baskets:
Boo basics
Keep the theme simple with fun and festive Halloween treats. Stickers, temporary tattoos and assorted candy are all great additions for any kid or kid at heart receiving this basket. Consider including one of these homemade Halloween snacks from the Scentsy blog!
Boo-vie night
This theme is for the movie night families we all know and love. Fill this basket with all the necessities like popcorn, soda, candy and, of course, your favorite Halloween or spooky themed movie. Our Spooky But Sweet Wax Bar or Room Spray are both great options if you’re also looking to include some new Scentsy product in your boo basket.
Self-care basket
Self-care means something different to each person, but there are some staples that everyone will get some use out of. Scentsy Body products are a great place to start, especially our moisturizing Hand Cream. Bubble bath, cozy socks, a blanket and some snacks are also great ways to bring a little joy to someone who needs a pick-me-up.
Baking basket
Fill this basket with everything the recipient might need to make a tasty treat! Include shelf-stable dry ingredients, sprinkles, cupcake liners and some Halloween themed paper plates!
Scentsy basket
Fragrance fans won’t want to miss out on this. We’ve got loads of Halloween treats to choose from in our 2024 Harvest Collection like a Strawford the Scarecrow Scentsy Buddy, the Ominous Gaze Warmer or a Stunning Sunflower Fragrance Flower. Plus, we’ve got tons of items that are the perfect size to squeeze into a basket like Scentsy Bars, Scentsy Pods, Scent Circles, Room Sprays and Scent Paks.
No matter which basket you choose, consider including a note that encourages the receiver to continue the trend by creating a basket to give to someone they know. Make sure they know to leave a sign on their door letting everyone know that they’ve already been “booed.”
How do I make my own?
Making your own boo basket is simple! Just follow these quick instructions:
- Choose the perfect bag, basket or bucket for your recipient. Kids will love a pail that they can use later for trick-or-treating.
- Lay a thematic cloth or napkin at the bottom for flair and padding.
- Select the items you wish to gift (like some of the Scentsy products we mentioned above).
- Make a customized card with a fun message and details on how to keep the trend going.
- Deliver the basket on their doorstep in secret via ding-dong ditch (at an appropriate time of day when possible).
If you do plan to make boo baskets a yearly Halloween tradition, make sure to be respectful and do some research on your recipient. Consider food and drink allergies, religious or cultural restrictions, and simple preferences. Boo baskets should be a safe and fun way for everyone to give and receive gifts during an exciting time of year.
