How to burn a Candle for the first time?
Trim the Candle wick before the first use and every time you light it. Remove the snipped portion from the wax.
For the first use, keep the Candle lit for a “full burn,” or until the top surface of the wax is melted edge to edge. This is a crucial step to ensure the Candle’s longevity because, as odd as it sounds, candles have a “memory.” If during the first burn you create just a small pool of melted wax in the center, the Candle will continue to burn like that, creating a tunnel that buries the wick and wastes wax. Plan to burn a Candle for the first time for about one hour per inch of diameter.

Trim the wick?
Before lighting a Candle, always trim the wick to 1/4″ (6 mm), no exceptions. Always remove the snipped portion from the wax to avoid a fire hazard. A proper wick trimmer will catch the snipped portion, but nail clippers or small scissors work fine.
An untrimmed wick creates a larger, flickering flame that creates excess soot and can create black marks on your Candle vessel. A longer wick also burns too hot and too quickly, which creates a safety hazard and reduces the Candle’s longevity.
Where to safely use a Candle?
The first and most important rule is to never leave a lit Candle unattended. Place Candles on a stable, level fire-resistant surface within your sight. Keep the Candle away from drafts that can blow curtains and other lightweight materials into the flame. Keep it away flammable materials like fabric, paper or dried flowers, and out of reach of pets and children.
What is the right way to light a Candle?
Light a Candle using a long match or a long-reach lighter to avoid burns. For multi-wick Candles light all wicks simultaneously to ensure even melting across the surface.
Pro tip: Light the wick at the base rather than trying to light the tip.

What is the ideal burn time for Candles?
There is a Candle sweet spot! Burn a Candle until you achieve “full burn” but always snuff at a maximum of four hours.
Letting a Candle burn longer than four hours creates safety hazards, because:
- The vessel can get dangerously hot and crack.
- The wick may “mushroom,” which creates excess soot or smoke.
- The wax may be too hot for optimal fragrance quality.
Once you snuff the Candle, let it cool for at least two hours before relighting it.
When there is 1/4″ (6 mm) of wax remaining in the vessel, allow the wax to cool completely and safely remove the wax and discard. Clean the empty vessel with dish soap and water and reuse it as a small vase or office catchall.
What is the right way to snuff a Candle?
Blowing out a Candle is fun but can cause hot wax to splatter. The best tool for the job is a traditional candle snuffer.
Never extinguish a Candle with water.
Buying candles?
Smart candle shopping starts with quality. Key factors include ingredient quality, manufacturing standards and thorough testing. Look for candle manufacturers that comply with Category 12 of the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) Standards and adhere to strict ASTM International performance and safety guidelines.
Well-made candles not only look beautiful, but are also safe, produce minimal soot, burn evenly and release incredible fragrance.
What candles burn the longest?
A candle’s burn time depends on so many factors: diameter, wick size and number, wax formulation and more. In general, soy-blend candles tend to burn longer and more evenly than pure paraffin candles.
Scentsy Candles provide hours of amazing fragrance and glow due to our proprietary soy wax blend, vessels that promote optimal heat distribution and carefully selected wick materials.
Maximize the life of your Candle by following the best practices we’ve outlined.

What candles have the strongest scent?
Scent strength, or “throw,” is determined by the quality and amount of fragrance oils, the wax and the candle’s design. The vessel shape and size impact scent throw. And the scent formulation also determines throw. Some fragrance notes, like cinnamon and vanilla, are naturally stronger. Others, like melon or delicate florals, are more subtle.
Soy wax blends are ideal for releasing fragrance throughout a single burn and the life of the candle.
Scentsy Candles use the highest-quality fragrance oils optimal for scent quality and throw. Our multi-wick candles create a larger wax pool, which creates a larger surface area to release the fragrance.
Does this apply to all scented candles?
Yes. These are best practices for the safe and effective use of any candle.

Are candles bad for you?
