From colorful pumpkins to bursting cornucopias, autumn décor holds a world of beloved opportunities. Many style choices for fall originate from the season’s most iconic symbol: red, orange and gold autumn leaves. This fall, make your home pop with these leaf-themed crafts for all skill levels!
Homemade autumn wreath
The wreath is a staple of fall décor, and this DIY version inspired by Birds & Blooms is totally customizable!
Supplies:
- Floral wire
- Dinner plate or another round object (to help you form the wreath)
- Fall foliage, nuts, berries, pinecones — whatever you like!
- Hot glue gun
Note: You can buy artificial fall foliage, or you can forage outside for pinecones and other items — this is a great way to involve your kiddos in the project!
Instructions:
- Using a dinner plate or another round object as a guide, form the floral wire into a circle and join the ends.
- Arrange your fall foliage on your wire circle without using glue. Experiment with multiple arrangements to create a balanced design. Pro tip: take a photo of your final design so you can reference it in the next step.
- When you’ve landed on your pattern, use your hot glue gun to glue each item to your wreath.
Glittery leaf garland
This garland inspired by Pretty My Party is an easy way to add some sparkle to your fall décor.
Supplies:
- Autumn leaves (artificial leaves will last longer than real ones)
- Liquid craft glue
- Foam brush
- Glitter
- Ribbon
- Hot glue gun
- A branch or floral wire (optional)
Instructions:
- Working one leaf at a time, use your foam brush to spread a thin coat of liquid craft glue on the front of the leaf.
- Gently shake glitter onto the glue in an even layer.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until all your leaves are decorated and allow your leaves to dry completely.
- Hot glue lengths of ribbon to each leaf. Hang leaves individually or tie them to a branch or floral wire.
DIY pom-pom branches
If you don’t have fall foliage where you live, these branches inspired by One Little Project are the perfect thing to bring autumn whimsy to your home.
Supplies:
- Bare branches (real or artificial)
- Hot glue gun
- Pom-poms
Instructions:
- Using your hot glue gun, simply attach pom-poms to your branches. Pro tip: Glue the pom-poms where leaves would naturally grow to make your design more cohesive.
After you’ve finished one (or two, or three!) DIY crafts, add a leaf-themed warmer like Amber Glow to complete the look, and you’re ready for autumn. Happy crafting!
