Summer is a great time to get your creative juices flowing and embrace your inner do-it-yourselfer! When the heat is unbearable, hole up at home with the AC, warm your favorite Scentsy fragrance and get crafty. Here are a couple ideas — that can be done in a weekend — to get you started …
Vintage-style Felt Letter Board
Disregard the Christmas-y angle of the online tutorial; this DIY craft is a fun, interactive piece of décor that you can display year-round!
What you’ll need:
- Frame with a backing and a deep enough inset for your dowels (make your own using scrap 2x2s and plywood, or grab one from your local thrift or craft store)
- ¼-inch wooden dowels, cut to size
- Felt or other thick fabric
- Fabric scissors
- Hot glue gun and lots of glue sticks
- Letter board letters
The length and quantity of your materials will depend on the overall size of your frame, so identify the frame you’re using first. From there, you can determine how many dowels and how much fabric you’ll need to complete the project.

Kids Teepee
Kids love hiding out in forts, tents, you name it. Make a kid-friendly teepee — for indoors or out — and then kick back while your kids entertain themselves for hours!
What you’ll need:
- 4-6 dowels, ¾-inch diameter and about 6 feet long
- 5 ½ yards durable fabric, like cotton drill or canvas
- 1 yard rope
- Drill
- Sewing machine
Don’t sew? No problem! There’s a no-sew option using an old sheet. For full instructions, check out the-thud-com.
