For centuries, humans have been communicating through symbols

Cave men would draw pictures on cave walls to tell stories, and the ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphics as an early form of writing.

Maybe they were on to something! Despite how advanced and complex our languages become, we still find ourselves communicating with symbols. These days, it’s emojis.

And how could you not ❤️ emojis? After all, there are literally thousands to choose from, representing everything from emotions to holidays to food — you name it!

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words

On July 17, World Emoji Day will be celebrated across social media. ?

Why July 17, you might ask? If you’ve ever looked closely at the calendar emoji on an iPhone or the icon on your computer’s iCal app, it most likely says July 17. ?

You just looked, didn’t you?

World Emoji Day was created in 2014 by Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burge after “emoji” was made an official word by Oxford Dictionaries in 2013.

Fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #WorldEmojiDay and share their favorite emojis.
