Staying fit in 2020 may be easier than you think

With many gyms still closed across the country, it can be tempting to put your workout routine on hiatus. But it doesn’t take fancy equipment to stay fit! All you really need is a can-do attitude and a little creativity.

You don’t need expensive equipment or excessive amounts of floor space to get a great workout! Push-ups, sit-ups and other exercises that use your own body weight are a perfect fit for any home workout routine. In fact, there are some great online guides for exactly this kind of activity. The health benefits of walks

Sometimes exercise really can be a walk in the park! As Harvard Medical School noted, “Walking improves cardiac risk factors such as cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, vascular stiffness and inflammation and mental stress.” The fact that walking can improve our mental health is especially relevant now. Getting outside to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air can really boost your mood.

Make healthy eating choices convenient

Eating healthy was hard enough before salad bars started closing up shop. Now, health concerns have made it that much more tempting to head to a drive-thru or order a pizza rather than risk a crowded supermarket. To counteract the convenience of fast food, try keeping your fridge stocked with your favorite fruits and veggies. This way, when you start craving a snack, you have healthy options close at hand.

We’re not going to sugar coat it — keeping up a healthy diet and exercise regimen can be tough even in the best of times. But like so many things in life, working out with others can make the challenge so much easier. Working out with your partner, kids or remotely with a friend is a great way to keep you on track with your fitness goals. An extra burst of motivation from someone who cares about you can make all the difference when you need it most.
