Make someone’s day — it’s National Compliment Day!

You just nailed that presentation at work. You made a dinner the whole family enjoyed. You’re having a killer hair day. And people not only noticed, they complimented you!

A sincere, well-timed compliment can make all the difference — and make your spirit soar. Why not share that love today in honor of National Compliment Day?

Here are five ways to brighten someone’s day — today and every day:

Acknowledge excellent work:

Has someone been going the extra mile at work or at home? Let them know you’ve noticed. It’s also fun to share overheard compliments. Positive reinforcement will make the recipient feel good about the effort they’ve put in and want to keep it up!

Say thank you:

Whether it’s face-to-face, over the phone or an old fashioned thank-you card, a simple and sincere “thank you” can be the best compliment. Or slip a surprise note inside your child’s or spouse’s lunch bag to ensure they’ll have a fabulous day.

Act on it:

Compliments come in many forms, including acts of kindness. Offer to drive the carpool for an overwhelmed parent; check in with a friend who’s just had surgery to see if you can pick up anything at the grocery store for them; shovel a neighbor’s driveway after a snow storm. It doesn’t require a ton of effort to show someone you care.

Give a little:

Bring fresh herbs from your garden or homemade treats to share with your co-workers. Instead of tossing flowers after a wedding or party, take them to a nursing home and ask if you can distribute them personally to the residents. A small, thoughtful gift doesn’t have to cost a lot, but the meaning behind it goes a long way.

Offer a lift:

No, not a ride. Encourage someone to follow their passions or step outside their comfort zone. Complimentary words of encouragement and support may be all they need to try something new, engage in a life-long goal or own their own business — like becoming a Scentsy Consultant!
