Most of us intend to do some real good in the world – especially this time of year. We set out to donate more, volunteer more, fill a bag for the canned food drive, sponsor a family in need for Christmas or fulfill a few requests form the nearest Angel Tree.
Our hearts are in it, but our days get busy. And despite our best intentions to be generous, we miss more opportunities than we take.
It’s better to give
The greatest enemy of generosity and goodwill isn’t usually lack of care or interest or even money. It’s simply an overload of everything else. We get distracted, forget to sign up, miss the deadline, wait too late to help out. It’s understandable; we have families and jobs and homes to look after, and sometimes the weight of it all leaves room for little else.
At Scentsy, we abide by three core values: Simplicity, Authenticity, and Generosity. These tenants guide every decision we make, every new product we launch and every program we put in place to support our Consultants.
Part of our commitment to Generosity is creating new, simple ways to get involved with causes that positively impact families and our communities, whether by volunteering our time, collecting supplies at the Scentsy home office or designing charitable cause products that provide real financial support and bring awareness to causes that matter. Our Consultants are incredible partners in this mission to bring value to the world – we couldn’t do it without their loving, generous hearts. They encourage us and each other to contribute more than we take.
“Be loud about the things that are important to you.” – Karen Walrond
Generosity is a team effort, and when one person steps out many more will follow. This year, let’s rally together and follow through on those generous intentions. Don’t just donate a few items to the canned food drive – round up a few friends, print some fliers and hold one yourself! Bring your whole family to the Angel Tree and urge each member to sponsor a child for Christmas. Challenge your friends to forgo receiving a few gifts this year and instead encourage others to donate to a charity of their choice. Check off as many items on your shopping list as possible by purchasing products that benefit a charitable organization.
Here’s one that makes childhood wishes come true: Make-A-Wish brings a special kind of magic to life every day for children who need it most. We were honored to welcome 6-year-old Aubrey and her family to Scentsy Family Reunion 2019 to help announce our new partnership with Make-A-Wish – our new opportunity to help wishes come true.
Make-A-Wish is dedicated to granting the wish of every child diagnosed with a critical illness. From Sept. 1, 2019 to Feb. 29, 2020, Scentsy will donate $7 USD from the sale of each Disney Tinker Bell: Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust – Scentsy Warmer to Make-A-Wish, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $100,000.
Odds are, you won’t meet the children whose wishes you help grant. You may never hear their stories or see their faces light up when a real-life dream comes true for them and their families. They won’t know your name or be able to thank you personally. But none of that really matters, does it? Their wish will have been granted and their hope reignited, because you chose to give.
Our lives are meant to inspire and encourage others. We’re supposed to help each other – to show love and kindness. When you decide to be generous, and when you make that choice again and again, the world becomes a better place.
Thank you for your generosity.
