Show your pets some love!

There’s nothing like the goofy-eyed, unconditional love and companionship of a pet.

Whether you’re a dog person, a cat person, or you prefer fish, hamsters, horses, birds – or something completely off the domesticated animal spectrum – pets are part of the family and deserve extra TLC now and then. Having an animal in your life is almost guaranteed to make you a happier person.

Did you know?

About 85 million families in the U.S. have at least one pet, but dog owners outnumber cat owners by about 27%. So, dogs really do rule!

We think EVERY day is a good day to pamper your pet. Here are a few simple ways to show them extra love, without a ton of extra effort:

Bake homemade treats

Store-bought treats can be pricey and often include weird ingredients that do nothing for the health of your pet. If you haven’t tried it yet, making tasty treats at home is easy and costs pennies on the dollar! Here’s a can’t-miss recipe in three easy steps:

Peanut butter dog treats

  • Mix together 2/3 cup of pumpkin puree, 1/4 cup of peanut butter, 2 large eggs and 3 cups of whole wheat flour.
  • Roll out the dough, then stamp out fun shapes with cookie cutters or simply slice to suit your dog’s size and appetite.
  • Bake at 350 F for about 20 minutes, or until edges are golden brown. Let cool and share.

Take them on an adventure

Whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood or a special trip to a pet-friendly park. It’s good for your pet to explore new surroundings and get plenty of exercise. Dogs, for example, need 20-60 minutes of activity per day to stay healthy and strong. From there, different breeds require different levels of rigor. So, be sure to grab a ball for fetching or put on your jogging shoes for a proper workout you’ll both enjoy. And don’t forget to stay hydrated! When you get thirsty, Sparky needs a drink, too. If you’re planning on heading out with your favorite pooch, be sure to put an ID tag on their collar just in case they go off running and can’t find their way back to you.
