Ah, the back-to-school rush!
Between shopping for school supplies, practice for fall sports and haircuts, it’s easy to confuse being BUSY with being ACTIVE. But don’t let the hustle-bustle of fall get in the way of taking care of yourself. No matter how busy you are, there’s time to squeeze in a quick workout. Here are some easy ways to up your activity, even on the busiest of days.
Make the most of practice times.
Rather than making two (or more!) round trips between home and practice, stick around and do some bodyweight exercises in the parking lot while you wait. (Think push-ups, jumping jacks, squats and lunges).
If walking is more your thing, take a few laps around the parking lot or field. It’s way more productive — and healthier — than sitting in your car staring at Facebook for an hour.
Get up a little earlier and work out.
We know, we know: Getting everyone ready in the morning is hard enough without throwing an a.m. workout into the mix. But with all the things that can come up during the day, working out the second you wake up is a surefire way to make sure you git ’er done. It doesn’t have to take long; SUPER efficient workouts, like high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or Tabata, can be done in as little as seven minutes. Go to bed in your workout clothes and put your shoes — and alarm clock — on the other side of the room for an excuse-proof way to start your day.
Get fit with friends.
Meet up for a bike ride, go on a hike, or take a yoga or dance class. It’s a fun way to catch up AND do something good for yourself.
Work out while you watch TV.
Whether you have a treadmill (you know, that expensive coat hanger you have in the corner of your bedroom?) or just a few spare feet in front of the TV, make the most of your evenings and squeeze in a little exercise while you spend some QT with Netflix. You can do bodyweight exercises during commercial breaks, or just catch up on Housewives at a mild trot.
