Scentsy’s core values include simplicity, authenticity and generosity. But it’s hard to be your authentic self and give to others when your self-care needs aren’t being met. So, International Mind-Body Wellness Day on Jan. 3 is a great opportunity to use the new year for a fresh, healthy mindset.
The goal is to identify how body, mind and spirit connect and impact your overall mental and physical health.
Mind-body wellness expert and “The Soul of Purpose” author Jaya Jaya Myra created the WELL method, to help you create a personalized plan for a healthy mindset.
W – Work-life harmony
E – Expect/enable excellence
L – Live your purpose
L – Love, not fear
Use Myra’s framework combined with your values and lifestyle to craft a plan to create the best version of you.
That’s a helpful, high-level and heady approach to mind-body wellness, but you might be wondering how to implement it practically. Here are some easy ideas to celebrate the day and get you started on a more holistic health path:
Meditate and reflect: Meditation is the process of clearing your mind using physical and mental techniques. Reflection is directing your thoughts towards one issue. Both help relieve stress and create physical and mental health benefits.
Walk or run: The benefits of physical activity are well-documented. Simple walking improves cardiovascular health and fights other chronic and preventable illnesses. Getting outside to enjoy fresh air and (maybe) sunshine is a great way to start the year.
Hydrate: Drinking enough water each day is one of the easiest and most constructive approaches to holistic well-being, but also sometimes one of the most difficult. Dehydration can lead to headaches, dizziness, dry skin or more serious effects. Lack of water can also make you tired. The recommended daily water intake is 6-8 glasses each day.
Get cozy or nap: Life is busy. We are overscheduled and have so much to do from dawn to dusk. If you’re feeling extra sapped, opt for a cat nap, which can seem like the swankiest of all luxuries! Experts suggest keeping it to 20 minutes, curling up in a dark, quiet place and avoiding late afternoon naps. Snuggling a fragrant Scentsy Buddy will add to the relaxation.
Take a soothing bath or shower: Hot water, a quiet room and zero distractions is a recipe for peace of mind. Experts are always finding more health benefits to a steamy soak, like soothing sore muscles and opening airways.
Journal: Taking a few moments to reflect and record your life experiences, thoughts and emotions is a great way to gain context and understand yourself. Choose to keep a daily diary or a gratitude journal. Whatever kind of journaling you choose, you’ll feel the positive effects.
Enjoy your favorite fragrance: In a recent Scentsy survey, most people said their entire day improves when they surround themselves with good scents. Fragrances offer relaxation, connection to cherished memories and so many health benefits. Scentsy Diffusers and Oils are a multisensory experience that connect mind and body.
