Some might say that when it comes to your kid’s backpack, it’s what’s INSIDE that counts.
Sure, it’s where the homework, books, and pencils live. But the OUTSIDE is where you can really make a statement! The outside is your canvas, your message to the world, and as an artist, you don’t want any old bag – check out these jazzy little tips that will make your kid the envy of friends and teachers alike!
It all starts with the style, the color, the brand – your child is probably going to want to weigh in here. Whatever makes them say “cool” or squeal with delight when they slide into those shoulder straps: bright, happy colors or basic blue? Cartoon characters or geo designs? Your student is unique, and they’ll want a pack that suits their style.
Next comes the really fun stuff – and your chance to help make their first day back to school totally rock.
If stocking up on school supplies is your back-to-school homework, consider this extra credit! You’ll score major mom/dad points for helping your student bling out their backpack and whatever else they need before the bell rings.
Here are a few ideas to take those backpacks – and the must-have supplies inside – from pure function to personality-filled FUN:
- Tag that bag! Did the teacher ask you to label your child’s bag to help keep them straight in the classroom? You might be tempted to scribble their name on the strap in permanent marker and call it done, but it’s actually a great chance to get creative! Shop cute luggage tags online (think bright colors or their favorite cartoon character), buy iron on name labels, or create your own labels with a free download (like these) and an inexpensive plastic tag.
- Washi tape for the win. It’s a low-budget, craft-store wonder that can take plain pencils or white notebooks and make them totally stunning: washi tape! Available in all designs and colors, one or two rolls will transform the basics into works of art. Kill those last few lazy summer days with this back-to-school project! (Parent bonus: Stock up on washi tape and all-white binders instead of the colorful/branded versions for a fraction of the cost!)
- Iron-on patches are R-A-D. Another great money-saving, style-multiplying trick: Cover a simple backpack (or update last year’s bag) with iron-on patches for heaps of personality. You can find everything from fruits, flowers, unicorns or robots to the perfect witty expressions. Etsy.com is a great source for handmade beauties on the cheap, or make your own with a little felt, embroidery and iron-on paper! You can bet your student’s bag will be 100% unique.
- Scent with love. Clip a cuddly, fragrant pal to their zipper with a Scentsy Buddy Clip. Pick from a variety of designs, each filled with scented beads that give off a kid-friendly fragrance like Apple Crush or Wild What-a-Melon. The best part is, they’re on sale this month! Just about everything Scentsy is 10% off during August, and select Buddy Clips are 20% off from Aug. 21-31! Shop with your Scentsy Consultant or find a Consultant at com.
