While losing weight and paying off debt are the most common New Year’s resolutions, they take a lot of time and effort before you notice a payoff.
For some instant gratification, why not make the most of your fresh start by tidying up your living space? Getting clean and organized doesn’t need to take a lot of time. Here are our top tips for a tidy 2018:
Conquer Clutter
- Clean out your closet. Most people wear 20 percent of their wardrobe 80 percent of the time, so rather than spending the better part of an afternoon going through your closet and agonizing if you’ll wear every piece again, pick the pieces you love and wear all the time, and donate the rest.
- Ditch your owner‘s manuals. Electronic versions of almost any product on the market are online. And really, when was the last time you needed to reference how to use your microwave?
- Designate a bin or basket for stuff that needs to be put away. At the end of the day, take five minutes to put the items in the basket in their proper space. You’ll save time throughout the day, and be less likely to get distracted mid-task.
Prevent Buildup
- Set up a shredder and recycling bin somewhere between your mailbox and your house. Shred or recycle the junk mail before you even enter your house, and you’ll save yourself from dealing with piles of clutter later.
- Opt out of paper billing, and handle all financial transactions electronically. Setting up automatic payments saves time, paper and postage. You’ll reduce the amount of mail you receive and help the planet.
- Before you leave a room, take a minute to pick up anything that doesn’t belong. You can drop things in your designated bin or basket to put away later so the clutter stays under control.
- Rinse off dirty dishes and put them directly in the dishwasher. It’s faster – and more esthetically pleasing – than tackling a pile of dishes that have been sitting in the sink all day. Or use Scentsy Clean Kitchen Soap in your favorite fragrance to wash your dishes by hand, and make a dirty job a little more enjoyable. It makes quick work of even the greasiest dishes and smells great!
Start Fresh
- Launder forgotten linens. How often do you wash your curtains, throws or even a guest room bedspread or duvet? Give those overlooked items a refresh with a much-needed wash. Want your linens to stay uber fresh? Try out the full Scentsy Laundry line to impart incredible fragrance that lasts.
- Clean out your fridge and pantry. Now’s your chance to ditch any expired food or junk food. Donate any unopened packages to the food bank, and give surfaces a good wipe down with Scentsy Counter Clean in your favorite fragrance to leave a dirt-repelling barrier behind to help prevent future messes.
- Got kids? Keep the chaos in check by starting a toy rotation. Divide your kids’ toys among five to seven bins (depending on how many toys they have) and bring out a different bin each day. Your kids may rediscover toys they haven’t played within months, and since it all fits in one bin, cleaning up is a breeze. It may also encourage your kids to relax and play with their toys while watching videos & songs to play along with. This will enable them to enjoy their toys and appreciate them.

I have a 3 section – 2 hanger dividing system I used in my closet.
Section 1. Once I’ve worn something, and perhaps it’s just been an hour or so and it’s still clean and smells like my favourite Scentsy Washer Whiffs – Zen (hence I’ll wear it again) it gets hung up to the right of my pretty blue hanger. I use to throw them on a chair or ottoman. Well, you know what happens then – you never wear it again because it gets all crinkly and wrinkled. After I’ve worn something hung to the right of my blue hanger it automatically goes into the wash bin.
Section 2. Anything fresh from the dryer (ooooh that smell of Scentsy Zen Washer Whiffs!!! lol) it gets hung to the left of the blue hanger and to the right of the pretty pink hanger. Hence this is the middle section of my closet.
Section 3. Anything to the left of the pretty pink hanger is something I haven’t worn in a few months. Every 3 or 4 months I look through this section and think to myself … is this seasonal? … Will I wear it again? If I answer NO to the later question then off it goes to be donated to my local shelter(s). I have a few favourites.
So instead of doing this I should be looking at that closet. Ohhhh the art of procrastination. Have a great day! #HappyKarma64
